Mann Valencia 10

Opened April 10, 1981 as the Mann Valencia 6. It was expanded to ten screens in December 1983. This theater was probably closed somewhere in early-2000’s due to the downfall of its popularity since the grand opening of Edwards Grand Palace Stadium. If you go to the former location of this theater, you can recognize the blank sign and stained marking of the theater name.

I lived in the Santa Clarita Valley from late 1985 to early 1990. My summer and weekend job for part of that time was at nearby Magic Mountain. I had to pass by the Mann Valencia 10 on my way to and from work. I remember fondly seeing numerous films here after work and even going here until my first couple of years in college after I no longer worked at Magic Mountain but still lived in the Santa Clarita Valley. By then the Plaza in Newhall showed second run films and the Mustang Drive-in had closed so the Mann Valencia 10 was the only first run theater in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Here is a February 2005 article about the conversion of the theater into a church:

I worked here for a few months in the late ‘80s. My starkest memory is of the audience love for Scrooged.

This was my first job away from home. I was 18 and had just moved to Valencia. The theatre was close enough for me to walk and/or ride my bike and I really enjoyed doing so, especially since I still didn’t have a car. It snowed that winter. For those unfamiliar with Southern California, snow is VERY rare in the Santa Clarita Valley (or in the entire L.A. region for that matter).

So, I can honestly say, while working in Southern California, I had to walk to work in the snow.

So funny that Santa Clarita now has a Cinema Drive where no cinema exists. :)
