The Skowhegan Drive-In opened on June 28, 1953 with Jeanne Crain in “Take Care of My Little Girl” & Glenn Ford in “The Secret of Convict Lake”. This drive-in had a capacity for 368-cars. By 1955 it was operated by Lockwood and Gordon Enterprises & Daytz Theatre Enterprises Corp. It was announced in summer of 2023 that the drive-in would close permanently at the end of the 2023 season and closure came on September 23, 2023 screening “Smokey and the Bandit”. “The Shining” & “Twister”.

A 2012 article in the Press Herald said that Doug Corson sold the Skowhegan to Donald C. Brown Jr. that year. It also said that Lockwood & Gordon Co. of Boston built the drive-in in 1954.
In January 2017, it posted to its Fundrazr page, “We’d like to thank all of the patrons of the Skowhegan Drive-In who helped us go digital. We didn’t get the full amount, but at least the amount we raised helped with the installation costs.”

It was announced that after 70 years of operation, this year will be the Skowhegan Drive-In’s last season.
