The April 9, 1938 issue of Film Daily had a brief item saying “…at Perham, Minn., Roy Rasmussen is remodeling a 390 seat house….” Roy Rasmussen is mentioned frequently in trade journals, and was still operating the house as late as 1967. Rasmussen’s Comet was across the street from Perham’s earlier theater, the Lux, which continued in operation for some years after the Comet opened.

The couple that owns this has for well over thirty years and has a remarkable place. Kids come, put their backpack in the closet, and then attend without parental supervision with no problems. It’s great for a night out. Prices are reasonable and it’s a great hometown theater.

Does anyone know where I can find show times for this theater? I tried calling the phone number and just got a busy signal after a few rings. Any help would be much appreciated.

If this is a current site, church services are also held in the theater. The address given doesn’t match, however.

The description says the current owner is the Wassche family. Since only three families have operated the theater over its lifetime, according to the description, that leaves only one family unidentified. If I come across it I will let you know.

Roy Rasmussen was the owner of the Comet in the early 1960s, according to an item in Boxoffice magazine at that time.
