Die Kamera

Die Kamera was opened in 1953 with the film version of the operetta “Der Vogelfanger” starring Ilse Werner. It was the first Cinemascope theatre in Karlsruhe (Baden-Wuerttemberg) and typical concrete block architecture of the early-1950s.

There was no balcony, because the projectionist’s room was installed directly over the high parquet. Originally Die Kamera had over 800 seats but they got reduced for getting a bigger difference between the lines. At its closing in 2001 Die Kamera was the last single-screen theatre in Karlsruhe.
