A theater stood at this address since at least about 1910, operated by Stermer & Vogel. The Charm could seat just under 300 and stood at Halsted and 43rd Streets in the Canaryville neighborhood. It was in operation at least into the 1950s, though today it is the site of a vacant lot.

My mother told me that my Grandmother, who was born in 1900 Chicago, would go to the Charm on Tuesday nights, where they were giving away pieces of china dishware to the ladies. In the middle of the depression my grandmother ended up with a nice set of dishes for her growing family!

I think my grandfather, Sam Coston, managed it in the 20’s.
