This photo of the original Sooner’s screen tower appeared in a full-page ad splash in the Miami Daily News-Record on July 1, 1953, promoting its grand opening the next evening. Microfilm is awful with photos, but I’ve done what I can to enhance the “Sooner” on the tower.

The original caption: “This picture shows the massive, 50-ft. high tower outlined (illegible) by the Wally Werr Neon Company. Picture on back side of screen is 46 feet wide and 36 feet high to afford clear visibility from any distance on the spacious ground.”
