LaMar Theatre

The LaMar Theatre, in the city of Arthur, in Illinois' Amish Country, opened in 1930 as the Garden Theatre, after the first Garden Theatre, located at 119 S. Vine Street had closed.

In 1937, it was renamed LaMar Theatre It is listed in the 1945 Film Daily Yearbook as open and seating 262. It was closed in 1965 Any further information on the Lamar would be appreciated.

the LaMar Theatre always in the Summer months above any movie title “AIR COOLED COMFORT”.Wonder how many just went in for the AC.June 6 1963 has “BARABBAS” playing with “40 POUNDS OF TROUBLE"starting June 9-12 and a big Kid Matinee on June 12 1963."FUEDIN'FUSSIN'and Fightin'” are playing with a festival of cartoon all ages are admitted for 35 cents.The Lamar like alot of small town theatres ran about three features a week.

I saw Hayley Mills in the “Chalk Garden” there about 1965.
