Royal Theatre

The Royal Theatre was opened on July 10, 1922 with Helene Chadwick in “The Old Nest”. This little theatre resides in downtown Fairview, OK. It’s kind of easy to overlook because it is missing its marquee giving it a store-front appearance. Inside, the Royal Theatre has been completely remodeled with an almost too new look and feel. Don’t get me wrong, this is very nice theatre but sometimes remodeling takes away from its original atmosphere. The sound and picture qualities are top notch and the owners and workers are very friendly.

As you go inside, you’ll notice a video store next to the main auditorium. Turning to your left, you’ll find the snack bar and the rest of the Royal Theatre. I always like to emphasize when a theatre is independent, and the Royal Theatre is. Therefore, anybody in the Fairview area should support this little theatre. It will remind most of us of our downtown, local theatres which are too quickly disappearing.

The Royal Theatre launched on July 10, 1922 with Helene Chadwick in “The Old Nest.” It replaced the Odeon Theatre elsewhere. Operator Roy Anthony switched the venue to sound films in 1929 with Vutaphone and Movietone films on May 15th with “The Home Towners.” The theatre was still open heading to its 100th Anniversary.
