Macon Drive-In

The Macon Drive-In in Macon, Missouri opened on October 1, 1952 with Dennis Morgan in “Painting the Clouds With Sunshine”. It was operated by H.P. Arnold. Car capacity was 300. This single screen drive-in closed in 2004 when it’s screen was destroyed in a storm.

The owners will not restore or sell because they saw the destruction as a sign from god that the era of drive-ins was gone…..

No it is sign that the screen tower from 1952 needed replacement!!That would be a great DI to reopen, it has room for a second screen tower.

There’s a nice 1974 photo at VintageAerial.com showing mobile homes in place on those pads to the northwest of the drive-in. Sure looks like a prime restoration candidate.
