This theatre goes back to the 1930s. It was torn down in 1981 to make room for apartments.

The old postcard above can also seen in a higher resolution in my Flickrstream. The photo on the card dates from 1936.

What a shame it got torn down. The should’ve put it on a boat and ship it to Miami’s South Beach. But then again, preservation was just about kicking in on shady South Beach in the Eighties.

If I can believe family history…My great uncle Harry, grand father William and my father Willam Stock built this theater in the 1930’s. My father claimed my Grandfather made him dig the the entire incline to the screen by hand. Or so his story went. My father would have to pull bobby pins out of the screen after shows…he said guests would shoot bobby pins at the screen and they would stick in it like a porcupine.
