The Wyoming Theatre was founded on August 15th,1912.The single screen house operated for seventy consecutive years until being destroyed by fire in 1982.I am currently in the process of compiling an extensive history of the theatre. If any members have information including photos of the theatre please contact me at Also of interest would be any information or photos of the Marinos Theatre or Luzerne Theatre which was located on Main Street in Luzerne, Pa., the Grand Theatre which was located in Edwardsville, Pa., the Parsons Theatre which was located on George Avenue in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.,the Kingston Theatre which was located on Wyoming Avenue in Kinston, Pa., or the Forty Fort Theatre located on Wyoming Avenue in Forty Fort, Pa.

The 500 seating count is given in 1941 & 1943 editions of Film Daily Yearbook. However in the 1950 edition of F.D.Y. the seating capacity is given as 649.

Thank you for your input. Actually both numbers could be deemed correct! The original theatre had 500 first floor seats.A balcony, which always existed, was seldom counted in the total seating capacity in the early history of the theatre. The balcony did contain 150 seats. I believe the 649 count was achieved by deducting one seat for the ever present Mr. Peter Marinos (brother of the theatre’s founder Mr. Louis Marinos)who occupied the first row first seat every day the theatre was open in order to greet his patrons. The theatre lost forty seats in the late 1960’s when an expanded concession area was added to the left hand vestibule immediately
inside the theatre’s lobby.
