Park Theatre

The 667-seat Colonial Theatre was opened by 1926. By 1941 it was operated by Butterfield Theatres (a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures Inc. It was still named Colonial Theatre in 1956, but had closed by 1957.

The Park Theatre was restored in the early-2000’s, after remaining dormant since 1984. A new group, The Preservation Through Performance Foundation, was recently formed to begin renovating and restoring the old 1920’s movie house. The plans include renovating the auditorium to seat 240 on the main floor and another 70 in the balcony. The theatre may also add a 100-seat meeting room upstairs and dressing rooms and storage areas in the basement. The theatre will become a performing arts and community center.

On July 8, 1954, the feature was Walt Disney’s “Rob Roy” in Technicolor, shown on the Park’s “Panoramic Wide Screen”. The Holland Theater was advertising “Demetrius and the Gladiators”, in Cinemascope.

Besides performing arts, the Park is also rented out for wedding receptions.

Here is a video clip of a band playing at the Park last March. I would turn the sound down or off before playing the clip:

Their website is on the top right beside the Overview. It will take you to their Facebook page which has a posting yesterday of an upcoming show on June 8th, and a calendar of events with karaoke 5/31 & 6/04, and “The Big Lewbowski” film showing on 06/05.
