Zvezda Cinema

Belgrade is the capitol city of Serbia (and was capitol of the former Yugoslavia). The Zvezda Cinema (Star Cinema) is located in the center of the city and entrance is gained along a long passageway. It was opened in 1911 and was designed in an Art Nouveau style. In later years it was operated by the state-owned Beograd Film company. It was closed in 2007.

On November 21, 2014, a group of activists with an aim to keep the historic cinemas of Belgrade open, broke into the empty building and initially over 200 squatters were in the building. They now screen three different films a day.

There are some photos of the Zvezda on this site. The other photo is from Life in 1948, but does not appear to be the same theater.
