News About This Theater

Lower level before renovation

The Lewis Theatre opened in 1939 with 500-seats. It was still operating as a full time movie theatre in 1957 and beyond….. Following the extensive remodel in 2009, the new stadium seating has 166 seats. Digital projection, with surround sound, was made possible with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015. Current feature films are shown regularly Friday thru Monday, with occasional special screenings, such as Lewis Film series, Significant Cinema Film Series, WV Filmmakers Festival, Lewisburg Chocolate Festival and other cinematic and live events. Features West Virginia related films with filmmaker talks when possible. Women majority local ownership and family operated Trillium Performing Arts Collective, founded in 1982 as a community and professional nonprofit arts organization, is the company-in-residence, providing classes, school programs and public concerts.

I’m working on a slideshow of the history of the Lewis Theatre. Lost Memory, do you have any other/older pictures of the Lewis? Where did you get the one from 1984? I appreciate any information or pictures I can get from you. Thanks!

The Lewis was reconfigured in 2009 with stadium seating, a floor level performance stage, theatrical lighting, a DVD projector, deco style interior painting and backstage work. Second and first run movies, plus some foreign, classic and documentary films are shown almost every night. Live performance is featured 1-3 times a month. Classes and rehearsals for Trillium Performing Arts, founded 1982 as a community and professional nonprofit arts organization, take place on stage. Private rentals are also available. The business is owned locally and family operated. Find the Lewis Theatre and Trillium on Facebook.
