Opened as the Trail Opera House, it later became the Liberty Theatre. It was renamed the Strand Theatre on May 13, 1938 and was operated by Famous Players. Closed around 1955.

Here are two photos from www.virtualmuseum.ca The Trail Opera House/Liberty is clearly a different theater. The second photo, which is the Liberty/Strand, was taken sometime between 1940 and 1950.

@ken mc: I don’t think it is clearly a different theatre at all. In fact, I think it is most likely the same theatre in both pictures. By the time it became the Strand it has been remodeled and a wing of retail stores has been added, but it seems to be the same theatre. Plus, the telephone pole and mountain are in the same place in both photos.
Roger is correct – it is the same theatre. On the right side of the first picture, you can see the old Trail Post Office. The Post Office would be to the right of the Strand as well, but it’s not in that picture. The Strand was actually behind the stores you see, but the lobby was on Cedar Ave. It is now a parking lot. According to the plaque in the link, the Strand was located on 1330 Cedar Avenue and was opened by Famous Players on May 13, 1938. It was destroyed by fire in December 1956 and was subsequently demolished.
