BTM Dutch Square Cinema 14

The Dutch Square 14 was opened by General Cinemas on December 19, 1997. AMC acquired it with their purchase of GCC. They operated the theater until August 21, 2022. Bow Tie Management reopened the theater on September 1, 2022. The theater originally featured a lobby cafe, which was closed for many years. BTM (Bow Tie Management) Cinemas is renovating the space for a bar. There is also a large arcade space in the huge theater lobby.

This location is under a management deal so the landlord owns the actual theatre but AMC operates it for a fee.

Having walked through the theatre yesterday I have to assume this is an entirely new build. A perfectly symetrical 14 plex with 7 screens to the left and 7 to the right.

I moved to Columbia in October of 1997, just before this opened. Wasn’t the twin cinema at the current Ruby Tuesday’s location? Or did they just have the sign there?

The twin theater was located where Ruby Tuesday currently stands on the south end of the mall parking lot. The current theater is attached to the mall on the site of the former Tapp’s department store that was torn down.

AMC closed this location after business on 8/21/22. Bow Tie Management will be reopening the Dutch Square 14 on 9/1/22!

Bow Tie Management appears to be a new company for operating this theater based upon their website only containing this theater. I initially thought it was going to be related to the Bow Tie Cinema chain that operates in NY and some other states in the Northeast, but it seems completely disconnected despite the similarity of name.

Bow Tie Management is the operating company of Bow Tie Cinemas and BTM Cinemas.
