This theatre served Knoxville’s African-American population and should not be confused with the city’s other Roxy Theatre on Union Avenue. The Roxy Theatre was opened on April 11, 1932 with Harry Carey in “Trader Horn”. It was operated by Tim Smith, who also managed the Rialto Theatre. This Roxy Theatre was a short lived theatre.
