The Eden Theatre was opened in 1969 by ABC Theatres. It went through a few operators, until Budco Theatres from the Philadelphia area took it over in 1976 or 1977. The theatre was twinned in 1978. One theatre had 390 seats and the other theatree had 360 seats. Budco Theatres was taken over by AMC Theatres in Jan. 1987. The theatre closed on Jan. 23, 1997 when AMC did not renew the lease. The building was owned by the same company which had the neighboring Eden Resort Inn. The theatre reopened on 2/7/97 being run by another company as a reduced admission rerun location. However, the theatre closed permanently on 5/30/98 and was demolished and replaced by a Sheetz Gas and Mini Mart.

you can now see this cinema in the new Google Earth 5.0 by clicking the clock icon and setting it before 1998.
It was at 1699 Oregon Pike. A gas station is now on the site.

The Eden was another Henry G. Greene design for ABC. The architect attended the May 27, 1969, opening of the house. He appeared in a photo taken at the event and published in Boxoffice of June 16.

A sad day in January 1997 when this theatre closed; as I was the last General Manager of this theatre for AMC. Its last features were Scream, Preacher’s Wife, & 101 Dalmatians. I had worked there from 1981-1986 & 1993-1997. The first movies I worked for were Stripes & Clash of the Titans. The theatre was closed as there were no renovations being done by the landlord and AMC changed its business model & were eliminating small complexes. The theatre typically did between 100,000 and 125,000 customers per year.

rocky316 I worked for AMC and was in Philly and did drive-ins (Lincoln, Columbia, 202, Bucks)during summer 89. You were working GM Wonderland and Eden. Did you know Jim who ran Columbia and worked at Eden. Are you Steve S? Comment if you see this. We could share some info.
