Located in the quiet Tanners Street, this cinema was converted from a school building and opened as the Empire Cinema in 1910. The first films shown were "A Story of Tomatoes" and "Dog Waiter". It was operated by Walter Charles Wilson who also operated the Star Cinema, Tonbridge.

The Empire Cinema closed in 1935 due to the opening of the new Argosy Cinema in the town.

It is now a Catholic church.
