The Star Theatre was opened on September 15, 1890 with 2,238 seats. It was operated by Colonel John W. Holmes. A certificate of occupancy dated August 27, 1927 shows a 1,410 seat theatre located at 389 Jay Street. The name of the owner is listed as Hyde & Behman Amusement Company who had operated the Star Theatre since January 1896.
The Star Theatre was demolished in March 1948.

The Star Theatre was screening movies in 1908. In the early-1940’s, movies were part of the burlesque program, and it also screened Italian movies in the mid-1940’s.
