Dolby® Stereo Logo Orinda Theatre

So nice when the curtains open or between previews they run the stereo Dolby® logo on the big screen. The only problem is even with all the neon and restoration work the surround speakers are placed up near the ceiling to not ruin the art paintings most of the wrap around stereo effect surround sound is lost because the volume is set to low and what sound is there goes up to the roof. I know every movie has different surround effects some have more then others. When we went to the re opening this past Sat May 1 the Dolby® logo had a low hint of the wrap around sound but when the movie ‘Nomadland’ came on hardly any surround sound was heard and we all sat near the back mid part of the theatre same with the trailers. I told the manger about this on going problem, hope he looks into It. ‘West Side Story’ opens in Dec 2021 at the Orinda and the surrounds need to be working good. Next time I will bring Dolby® SF Jim over with me and maybe he can sneak in the booth with a screwdriver on the volume lever!

Just found out from Dolby® Sam on the Film Tech site the surround speakers at the Orinda Theatre have been turned off at this time. Too many problems with blown out cones. Now after the owner has re done the classic neon and put back the black lights maybe the next project will be to replace the surround speakers. The Orinda area is full of million dollar homes and many locals have their own home cinemas. Must be disappointing now to go to the Orinda Theatre and not hear anything surround wise in the 750 seat large auditorium that they can hear at home from a film. Time to start the surround $$ sound fund, add a surcharge to the tickets. I have a idea that I posted on a few other sites. While the Orinda gang is waiting for speaker funding Sam maybe can put in two temp back corner surround speakers R/L ch so at least we can hear some split surround information. These back corner wall speakers you may not hear much way down front but If the volume is turned up and If you seat in the middle section I think this will work for a time till the cash comes into play!
