The Buffalo Theatre opened was opened in 1921 by E.E. Ryan. It was purchased from the Ryan family in 1960 by Milan Steele, who at that time also owned the Lakeside Drive-In. It had closed by 1987.
It was renovated in 2016 and re-opened with live performances and dances. It is hoped to screen movies again in the near future.

Chester Gould, who created the Dick Tracy character of cartoon strip fame, grew up in Pawnee. It has been reported that Gould earned extra cash painting movie posters while attending OSU in Stillwater. Wonder if he did the same for Pawnee theatres?

Last I heard this theatre was vacant, never converted to any other use. There used to be posted on this page an excellent photograph snapped by Don Lewis. Wonder why it has been removed?

So the tiled roof structure and niches on either side of the upper facade were added after the 1987 photo was taken? Wonder if it was part of a downtown improvement initiative?
I just bought the Buffalo Theatre at auction on Nov. 1, 2013. It will be restored.

The Buffalo Theatre is now open for live performances and dances. The second live performance will be Dec 3rd and 4th of the Christmas Carol. A New Year’s Eve dance is planned which will be the third dance since restoration has begun.
