El Dorado Theater

The El Dorado Theater opened May 30, 1921 with “Deception”. By the early-1940’s it was operated by Fox Midwest Amusement Corp. It was still open in 1956, but had closed by 1957. The building is now home to a cafe.

This theater was recently featured on the “American Picers” show on the History Channel.

There were quite a few shots of the interior, showing the stage and the balcony still in place. The owner is divesting himself of a lot of the artifacts that are inside.

I just saw the “American Pickers” episode as well. I hope when the current owners vacate, that it can be saved or put back to use as a theater.
It appeared that it hadn’t been altered that much. Just a lot of antiques spread throuhout. Even in the balcony. Kudos to the current owners for keeping it as is.

I just the Pickers episode, but didn’t see the balcony and stage areas though did see a glimpse of the marquee at the end of the show. I agree with David Zornig….hope when the current owners vacate, that it can put back to use as a theater.

The El Dorado launched on May 30, 1921 with “Deception.” It competed against the Gem Theatre, Eris Theatre, Belmont/Palace, and the Royal theatres

That’s my grandparents theatre. And yes, they were on American Pickers. However, Mike, my grandfather, died last year January. My grandmother is hoping to sell everything in it and the building.
