Theatre Royal Tonypandy

One of two variety theatres in Tonypandy, the other was the Empire Theatre. The Theatre Royal opened in 1892. It is an imposing chapel-like building. Re-modeled in 1912, it was operated by Sam Duckworth & W.E. Willis and became the Royal Cinema.

Closed at the end of World War I in 1918, it re-opened in 1922 under new owners. The Royal Cinema closed in 1959. The building is still in existence

After which it was the Town Hall, a shopping arcade, snooker hall, and night club. It remains empty to this day.
