New State Cinema

Located in Pontlottyn, near Caerphilly. This is listed as the Cosy Cinema in 1937. It was owned by the Workmen’s Institute & Library, and films were booked at the hall, with variety booked by Scott Selwyn of Newport. The proscenium was 15 feet wide. The stage was 21 feet wide and 15 feet deep, with four dressing rooms. By 1944, it had been re-named State Cinema (late Cosy).

When Cinemascope was fitted in the 1950’s, the proscenium was extended to 27 feet wide, giving a screen size of 24 feet 11 inches, by 10 feet 6 inches. The seating capacity had been reduced to 350. This cinema was still operational in 1960 and listed on the FTS (Cardiff) delivery schedules. It remained open in 1966, but had closed by 1980.
