The building is located in the old city area, by the docks on the river. It first served as a warehouse for the docks, later becoming a print works and then a private club.
Cartoon’s Cinema opened in 1978. Its 3-screens have seating capacities for 94, 86 and 49. There is a very attractive island paybox and the cinema also has a basement café, Sous-Sol. The Cartoon’s Cinema was a member of the Europa Cinemas group. It was declared bankrupt on 24th September 2013 and closed.
Fortunately it was rescued by the Lumiere Group. The auditoriums and projection facilities were completely refurbished and it re-opened as Cinema Cartoon’s in early-2014. The former basement café now serves as a bar for the cinema.

Does it only screen cartoons?
No, it screens art-house and mainstream films. I do not know why it has such an unusual name. Perhaps it started as a children’s cinema. The name is certainly misleading now.
