The Public Hall near to to East Croydon Railway Station, was located on the north east corner of George Street and Wellesley Road. It was built with a library and scientific instution use, and was converted into a full time cinema on 16th May 1910. Seating capacity had been slightly increased from the original 531 in the stalls and 116 in the balcony. It had previously screened films occasionally from around 1906.

The Public Hall’s use as a full time cinema was short lived as it closed by the end of 1910, although occassional film performances were held there until 1920, as it retained its Cinematograph Licence.

After World War II, the building was demolished and a parade of shops and a Barclays Bank was built on the site.
