The Beltway Plaza Twin opened in July 1980, operated by Greater Baltimore Cinemas. For a brief period in 1983, it was run by an associate of F.H. Durkee Enterprises (owners of the Senator and many other houses). The smallish theaters ran first-run fare and midnight movies, including two memorable engagements of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" between 1982 and 1985. The 1985 expansion of United Artists' Movies at Golden Ring, however, spelled the end of the Beltway Plaza Twin, which closed in mid-1986.

The current Beltway Movies 6, opened in the early 1990’s, is in a different part of the same shopping center. It too was originally operated by Greater Baltimore Cinemas.
