The Theatre Historical Society on-line archive has the MGM Theatre Report for this theater when it was the Crown; it’s Card # 496. Address is Hanover St. There is an exterior photo dated May 1941. Condition is Good. The report says that the theater was over 15 years old, was showing MGM movies, and had 800 seats. Competing theaters were the Strand and the Palace.

The caption of a c. 1912 photo of the Crown Theatre on page 48 of Manchester, by Robert B. Perreault (Google Books preview), says that the Crown was renamed the Variety Theatre in 1955 and continued to operate under that name until closing in 1961.

Photo is very artistic and evocative. Lights look like crystal. Blade signs are strange.

The Crown building is the still existing Odd Fellows Hall. The 4th floor auditorium area is now used for offices and rehearsal space by the NH Philharmonic Orchestra.

Good, building still there. Looks like Child and Family Services (Teen Resource Center) now.
