Interesting how one country’s capital is booming with cinemas

http://cinematreasures.org/blog/2014/1/24/district-theater-boom-on-the-rise

another country has no more movie complexes in it’s downtown core. I realize that Ottawa isn’t nearly as big as Washington, but you would think a city of this size could have at least ONE cinema complex downtown. Shameful. I pity that the residents who DO live in downtown Ottawa can no longer walk to a movie because of some greedy landlords who can’t come to terms on a lease even when there is a company willing to lease the space and keep the cinemas open.

Cineplex already has the South Keys, Bayshore (Coliseum), and Gloucester (SilverCity) sites. So why bother picking up this theatre again and renovate it.

I wonder why this closing disappeared from the “Closings” blog? It’s no longer there…

The Rideau Centre built originally by Famous Players Canadian Corporation was a hole. In the last few months of its sorry existence, they sold the admission tickets right at the candy bar. I am sorry to see theWorld Exchange Plaza Cinemas CLOSED.

This theatre is now closed. Unbelievable that the capital city of Canada no longer has any large theatre complex downtown, only the single screen Bytowne and Mayfair. I never did understand why Cineplex had to divest itself of both the Rideau Centre and this one. When Empire took them both, wasn’t THAT a conflict of the rules? I wonder if Cineplex had kept this one, if it would still be open? I was of the understanding that the competition bureau didn’t want one chain having threatres near to each other, but that didn’t happen here. The World Exchange and Rideau were very close to each other.
