Bel Air Drive-In

The Bel Air Drive-In opened June 26, 1954 with Paul Colline in “Johnny the Giant Killer”, Jon Hall in “Eyes of the Jungle” & J. Carrol Naish in “The Monster Maker”. It was closed at the end of the 1987 season. It was operated by Hudson Theatres until 1976 and in 1977 Kerasotes Theatres took over the operations.

The Bel Air Drive-In was reopened by independent owners on April 21, 1989 with Tom Hanks in “The ‘Burbs” & Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Twins”. It finally closed in 1995. The space is now a Maxx Self Storage and U Haul Rental operation.

The Bel-Air did close in the late 80s, I believe. However, it did re-open after the other Richmond Drive-In, the Hi-Way Drive In, burned down. Though the reopening probably didn’t last more than a couple of years before closing permanently.

Site is now a private residence, it looks like they kept the concession building and converted it into housing or storage.
