Rear of Capitol Theatre, mid `50s photo courtesy and description credit Tal Hardin. “June Allred and I are having our regular Friday night Skull Session I asked him about the tall part on rear of Capital Theater building. June said that the Capital had a screen that could be raised and lowered if the wanted to have a stage act. It was built in 1922 and they had a lot of vaudeville acts. He also mentioned that both Dick Stone and Francis White ran projector there in the early days. June also told told me the front steps in the picture went to Mrs. Stutts Beauty shop and the ones in the back was a fire escape for the balcony. Francis White at one time may have had over 100 theaters in the Carolinas. It was call Consolidated Theaters. He owned the Sunset, Capital and The North 220 in Asheboro. Another tid bit was that Lash LaRue was under contract with Francis White Productions. June remembers Lash coming to Asheboro twice, once at The Capital and once at the Carolina.”
