Located opposite the railway station in Essendon, a northern suburb of Melbourne. The Essendon Theatre opened in 1914, in what had originally been the Essendon Public Hall. Converted into a cinema by architect D.R. Dosetter, it was independently operated until April 1930.

From August 1935, it was taken over by Hoyts Theatres chain and was re-named Hoyts Plaza Theatre. The Hoyts Plaza Theatre was closed on 17th August 1959.

It was converted into a Ukranian Centre.
