The Alexandra Cinema Theatre was converted from a hall at 2 Zetland Street, in the Central District of Hong Kong Island. It opened to business on 17th July, 1908. Electric fans and lights were installed at the hall. Besides variety shows, a short film "Cheeky Traveller" was also shown at the theatre. According to its advertisements: new songs nightly, and new pictures every second night.

The cinema renamed as the Alexandra Cinematograph in early-1909. Its advertisements boasted the cinema to be the cosiest and most central hall.The cinema claimed entire change of programme every Monday and Thursday. These films have never been shown in Hong Kong by any other Cinematograph.

The films shown at the theatre included:Life in India, Pompei, Imitation craze, American Convicts, Carlos revenge, French manoeuvres in 1908, Destruction of the stamboul by fire, The little Savoyard……
