The Houston Drive-In was opened on October 5, 1951 with Randolph Scott in “The Doolins of Oklahoma”. It was operated by Russ Saunders. It initially had a capacity for 300 cars. This was Macon’s largest drive-in in the late-1950’s parking 900 cars, one of the largest drive-ins in middle Georgia. Almost all of Houston Avenue runs through South Macon, in those days a decent part of town. The Houston Avenue Drive-In was booked by Theatre Booking Service. Theatre Booking Service was out of Charlotte, NC.
