Motor View Drive-In

The Moto Vue Theatre was opened by H.P. Rhodes on December 14, 1951 with Dick Powell in “Station West” & Johnny Weissmuller in “Tarzan’s Desert Mystery”. The Motor View Drive-In is the smallest and most forgotten of the five drive-ins in Macon. The Motor View Drive-In parked 275 cars in this middle Georgia city and sadly was one of the first to close when Television hit.

In 1956 it was family friendly with good bill of Westerns, so popular in the South.

It was owned by Motor View Drive-In Theatres in Macon. It was closed in 1965.

I found seven drive-ins for Macon using 1954 aerial photos. haven’t figured out which ones went by which names yet for four out of the seven. Will have to make a few calls to local history people to help sort it out.

Macon had 6 Drive-in theaters:

The 41 Drive-in, The Houston, The Dixie,
The Moto-Vue, and the two newest were The Weis and the Riverside Drive-in. I am not familiar with the Starlight or the Southside.

I don’t have an exact address for the Motor-Vue Drive-in, however it was located on Eisenhower Parkway close to the intersection with Pio NoNo Ave, the lst Kmart in Macon was build either on the site or next to it. The back of the Westgate Theatres would be about where you would have entered the Drive-in off Eisenhower Parkway.
