The Grand Theatre was opened by 1929. It was renamed Capitol Theatre from August 1, 1935 when it reopened with Will Rogers in “Life Begins at 40”. By 1941 it had been renamed Richland Theatre. It was the only game in town when it came to movies in the 1950’s, since there was no outdoor screen in Richland, Georgia. The theatre was owned by Bishop Theatres in Columbus, Georgia, based in the Dixie Theatre building.
