Epic Theatres of Hendersonville

Built in an old Walmart location, hey, that is a turn since most Walmarts are built in old drive-in locations. Anyway, not a bad looking theatre. Heard one story from a man that use to own and run the Carolina Theatre I and II in Hendersonville, how he was treated rudely from a teenage manager when he went to purchase a gift card. The theatre business has changed since his days when adults ran theatres.

Epic also took over the Four Seasons Cinemas when Regal dropped them. They quickly let it die a quick death, leaving only that big 12 screen theatre right up the road. From what I have heard from ex-employees I am glad I got out of the business in 1983.

It is really nothing to look at.Bit of history about the location when a jet crashed midair with a private plane within walking distance of the Epic, killing hundreds in the late 60’s,the Jet aircraft was reconstructed right in the same area of the 12 plex.I remember seeing the jet being put back together as a kid.I guess in those days they didn’t put crashed aircraft together in hangers.

There are two photos of this theater on the web site of TK Architects, the designers of the project (click on links reading “Cinemas” then “Traditonal” then “Commercial Revitalization”). The caption gives the seating capacity as 2300.

Probably one of the sorriest theatre chains, right next to CARMIKE.When the Carolina 1 and 2 were torn down for a bank building was the worst thing that happened to this town that was use to having a good show on the SCREEN.
