Billboard, April 10, 1954: “The Smith Drive-In Theater has been opened at Carthage. Tex., by Seth and Wilton Smith. co-owners.”

Found the drive-in 1.75 miles west of Carthage.

It was at the southeast corner of the intersection, and is easily visible in aerial photos from 1954.

Yes,I saw it.It pays to read non-fiction and not Fiction.Right Nick. Did you see that Kevin McCartey Passed away.He was great in “INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS”. Saw it in the paper.

I thought it was wild when i read the bio and somehow remembered the story the other night,Grabbed the book and put Fonda’s Quote in.Hope one day to find the Drive-in that was in “MIDNIGHT COWBOY”.

This was the only Drive-in I could find in Carthage,so it had to be this one that Peter Fonda was writing about.
