Teatro Azteca

The Teatro Azteca was located in a residential area of the Puerto Nuevo section of San Juan. The only reason I know about this theater is that, back in the mid/late-1970’s, my school bus would pass by this dark brown building with a run-down marquee and an equally run-down neon sign with the name "AZTECA". There was a mom-and-pop grocery store named "La Bodega de Chencho" on the back of the building.

Recollections, anyone?

I remember this one. It was independently owned, but I don’t remember the name of he owner.

This is just an assumption, but, given the name, it must have showed Spanish-language films, particularly Mexican.

I believe I found the right location after a careful search of the area on Google Maps. The Azteca was indeed located in Puerto Nuevo, specifically where Córdova and Constitución streets form a fork. The building currently houses the Puerto Rico Electricians Licensing Board, with the address 708 Calle Córdova, although the theater’s marquee and entrance were on the other side on Calle Constitución.
