Opened on November 18, 1988 as a first-run multiplex, Cinemark converted this theatre to a discount theatre having expanded and upgraded its other theatre in Redding, now the Cinemark Redding 14.

The Cinemark Movies 8 was closed on March 15, 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Cinemark then decided the theatre would not reopen due to the lease expiring.

Cinemark announced it would not reopen this theatre as it was at the end of its lease.
