It had been a church before it became a theater, hence, the appearance of it in this accompanying photograph of it that is undated.

In New York there was a big morality drive that closed many silent theatres when they were accused by Christian groups of being the source of spreading diseases, the abduction of white women, drug use, and pretty much every other vice they could pin onto the mostly Jewish industry.

Seems like a lot of silent movie houses had a short life span way before sound.Be it the Big Apple or my city of Augusta,Ga.Either Fire got them {film stock} or just closed up.
