north side drivein watertown

Located on New York Route 12, approximately 7 miles north of Watertown and ¼ mile north of Parish Road (County Road 16). The Northside Drive-In was built by Dr. Phillip Lievig and opened on July 20, 1950 with Joan Fontaine in “You Gotta Stay Happy” & Johnny Sheffield in “Bomba, the Jungle Boy”. As a special promotion on the night management presented a fresh cut flower to all the lady guests, and a free balloon to all the children.

In 1975 the drive-in was acquired by ATKO Canton Corp. who ran it until it closed in 1988. Currently the snack bar is still standing, all other structures have been demolished and the land stands vacant. It closed after the 1988 season.

When you go to the Map the red dot is 4 miles off. If you want to see the Drive-In on the Map, remove the Route 12 from the address, type in Carr Road and you can see the Drive-In by the 12. If anyone can come up with a way to enter an address or crossroads for the lacation, GOOD LUCK, I sure tried!

Could the name have been changed to Starlite Drive-in. I have that Drive-in in my 1956 Motion Picture Almanac, but no NORTHSIDE?

A closer address is 27734 NY-12, Watertown, New York

Today, you can still see the remains of the outline, ramps, entrance and exit roads, and the snack bar/projection booth is still somewhat intact, although in pretty bad shape.
