The B & D Drive-In was the first drive-in in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It opened September 16, 1949 but closed only seven years later, on October 6, 1956, last operated by Mrs. P. Buchholtz. Most likely it lost business to two drive-ins in Escanaba and a third in Manistique.

The site is now occupied by a Marathon (formerly Total) truckstop, whose address is 7932 US-2.

7668 US-2, Rapid River, MI 49878 will drop you on top of the Mobil station that is now on the exact spot of the drive-in. A 1953 aerial on Historic Aerials exists of this ozoner when it was open.

It appears from the 1953 aerial that the drive-in had the unusual arrangement of a small projector booth in the front row.

Of the three entrance/exit roads, the one connecting the drive-in to US Rte. 2 on the south side seems to be the main entrance. A ticket booth and overflow drive is present in that location.

A small structure next to the north exit road may have been where concessions were sold. The east entrance had a gate.

By 1981, the entire drive-in had been demolished and the property razed. Today, there is no trace of the drive-in remaining.
