Before Hoyts took over this location in the late nineties, it was owned by Canad and had been around for a long time. I saw Return of the Jedi here in 1983 when it was only a four screen theater. In 1985 or so the building was renovated and the five additional, smaller screens were added. I can’t find any information about Canad — or when the theater originally opened anywhere, unfortunately.

It is a casino. Blackjack, poker, roulette, etc. The food is nice, too. If you have clear enough memories of the Regal 9, you may find it really fascinating just walking around, and seeing just how they used each of the available spaces.
