The Kingston Theatre was opened on June 9, 1925. The building also housed several store rooms.
It was built and operated by Thomas Alexander and Louis Marinos Sr. in conjunction with the Comerford Corporation. It had 885 seats. The auditorium was destroyed by fire in the early-1950′s. The ruling was arson. However, the front of the building was salvaged and endured for decades as an office building. It, along with the connecting former Alpha Theatre building was demolished sometime around 2000.

According to the “Wilkes Barre Record,” the Kingston Theatre opened on June 9, 1925. After “first run” showings across the river in Wilkes Barre, PA movies would move to Pittston, PA for a week and then to the Kingston, which was always the premiere showcase for the west (suburban) side of the Susquehanna River. After the run at the Kingston, movies would then play the Forty Fort, Luzerne and other small town west side theaters.
