This “rocking chair” cinema was where “I guess” I saw JAWS in the summer of 1975. I had to have seen it here, no other theater in the area had the rocking chairs. I’m very glad to see it is still opened. Going in the water after seeing JAWS was very different than prior to seeing the movie.

Built about 1970 and operated by Stewart & Everett Theatres corp until that entity was purchased by Carmike Cinemas in 1987.

A second screen was opened in late 1977 and the cinema was renamed “Neuse Village Cinemas”. A third screen was added about 1983. The original was a rocking chair cinema. the two additions were standard Irwin theater seats.

It now operates as an independent, with digital cinemas.

The third auditorium was not added until the eighties. The theatre is currently owned by an old time Stewart &Everett theatre manager. Good luck.

This theatre was a “Rocking Chair Theatre” when it first opened, and still had rocking chairs under Carmike. I haven’t been to the Neuse Cinema since the present owners took over, so I’m not sure if they still have rockers in the auditoriums.
