Built on the site of the Palace Theatre. The Astoria Cinema was opened on 5th December 1932, and was operated by London & Southern Super Cinemas chain. Seating was provided for 880 in the stalls and 292 in the circle.

Taken over by the Oscar Deutsch chain of Odeon Theatres Ltd. in July 1937, it was re-named Odeon in 1945. It was closed for a month for ‘modernisation’ in October 1961, reopening with just 852 seats, using the stalls area only.

The Odeon was closed by the Rank Organisation on 19th April 1975, and subsequently demolished. An office block now stands on the site.
