The 980-seat Shirlington Theatre was opened January 31, 1946 with Joseph Cotton & Jennifer Jones in “Love Letters”. It was operated by the Shirlingham Amusement Company of Alexandria. It was closed in 1957 and demolished in 1958 to build a department store on the site.
