The Merced Sun-Star on November 29, 1980 looked back on some of the city’s ‘old-time theaters’. One such showplace was the Elite Theater, which was opened in 1915 by C.H. Douglass at the southwest corner of 17th Street and M Street (17th Street is now Main Street). This theater was open until Douglass opened the first Merced Theatre on March 2, 1920.
